PURPOSE: To change the appearance and illumination state of the same illumination apparatus into two modes.

CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal filter 12 changed into the translucent state and shading state by an electric action is stuck on one face of the reflector 11 of a room light R1 made of a translucent material. When the liquid crystal filter 12 is in the translucent state, the light from a light source passes the liquid crystal filter 12, and the color tone of the reflector 11 is expressed bright. When the liquid crystal filter 11 is in the shading state, the light of the light source is cut off by the liquid crystal filter 12, and the portion of the liquid crystal filter 12 is expressed dark. The appearance and illumination state of an illumination apparatus are largely changed.
