Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal shutter of high speed response and high contrast and the driving method of the liquid crystal shutter capable of halftone display.
SOLUTION: This liquid crystal shutter arranges a polarizer whose absorption axis is intersected at the angles of 80°-100° on a liquid crystal element having distortion larger than 180°, an angle made between the absorption axis 13 of a lower polarizer plate and the direction 12 of a middle liquid crystal is made to be in the range of ±40°-±50° and a quotient of the interval (d) between a first substrate and a second substrate divided by a twisted pitch P of the liquid crystal element d/P is set as 0.5-0.9. Δnd showing the birefringence is set as 600nm-900nm.
