Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte of high ionic conductivity containing a new liquid crystalline compound useful as a smectic liquid crystal material.
SOLUTION: This electrolyte comprises a metal salt and such a liquid crystalline compound as to have a liquid crystalline mesogenic group and two side chains each bound to the liquid mesogenic group and having a (OCH2CH2)x or (OCH2CHCH3)y skeletal moiety (x and y are each an integer of 3-25); wherein the metal salt is an alkali metal salt, and the electrolyte is liquid crystalline, contains an organic solvent and has anisotropic ionic conductivity.
