The liquid discharge apparatus is equipped with a line type head (50) in which the head units having a plurality of nozzles for discharging ink arranged in a two-dimensional state are connected in an array over a length corresponding to the entire width of a recording medium, a head moving means which moves the head along an arrangement direction of the head units, a blade (62) which wipes nozzle formation surfaces altogether in the arrangement direction of the head units by coming into contact with the nozzle formation surfaces of the head units when the head moves, and a suction removing part (63) which is provided on the downstream side in the movement direction of the head of the blade and removes the liquid brought into a clearance between the head units.
