To provide a mechanism which can judge the presence or absence of leakage without utilizing a special instrument other than various detecting devices equipped as standard in an ink jet printer.
The liquid ejector is equipped with a recording head, a tank, a channel, a temperature detecting means which detects the temperature of the recording head, a pressure detecting means which detects whether or not the pressure reaches a threshold value, a liquid supply means which sends the pressurized air to the tank to supply a liquid in the tank to the recording head, and a judging means which specifies an actual time after the tank pressure becomes higher than the threshold value before it becomes lower than the threshold value, and specifies a permissible time as a threshold value of the presence or absence of leakage on the basis of the detected temperature and a volume of the air, thereby judging the presence or absence of leakage according to a relationship between the actual time and the permissible time.
