To provide a small-sized liquid droplet discharge device which enables the precise discharge of liquid droplets and reduces an irregularity in the amount of the liquid droplets, and also to provide its driving method.

The liquid droplet discharge device is equipped with the liquid surface detecting sensor 6 contained in a nozzle 5 and takes the procedures of: a process for sucking the liquid remaining at the leading end of the nozzle 5; a discharge process for dispensing a required amount of the liquid: and a suction process for cutting off the discharged liquid droplets.
