To provide a liquid droplet discharge head which suppresses lowering and fluctuation in characteristics of piezoelectric elements, and provides high reliability even in a high-humidity environment, and is reduced in cost through simplification of its manufacturing method.
A sectional shape of a piezoelectric element 144 provided on a vibration plate 124 is formed so as to be tapered, gradually getting wider toward its upper side (an electrode layer 158) from its lower side (an electrode layer 160 side), and insulation layers are formed on the upper surface and side surface of the piezoelectric element 144, and in a predetermined area of the upper surface of the vibration plate 124. The insulation layers 170 are separated in a periphery (a peripheral area 170B) of the piezoelectric element 144 of the upper surface of the vibration plate 124, i.e., from an adjacent piezoelectric element 144, and as for their layer thicknesses, the upper surface 170C is made thinner than the side surface 170A.
