The liquid ejector includes: (1) a head for ejecting a liquid to a medium, the head that is selectively filled with a liquid for maintenance and a liquid for recording; (2) a switching mechanism for switching the liquid with which the head is filled; and (3) a controller that allows the switching mechanism to switch a state from a first state where the head is filled with the liquid for recording to a second state where the head is filled with the liquid for maintenance while ejecting the liquid for recording from the head to the medium (4).
