To provide a method and device that is preferably applied to sample liquid level detection, liquid level contact detection, or the like in analysis instruments etc. to perform processing such as sample dispensing with one or more probes.
A method for detecting liquid level contact using a number of probes (1) includes detecting a liquid level in a container by capacitance change to stop downward movement of each probe, and changing start timing of upward movement of each probe in detecting movement away from the liquid level when each probe moves upward after its suction operation. In this case, the suction operation by each probe is ensured by detecting the liquid level by the probe, and also by determining whether the probe has kept a contact with the liquid after sampling, thereby being able to immediately find the shortage of suction amount and achieving stable sampling.
