To provide a liquid level meter and a measuring technique of liquid level capable of measuring precisely height of liquid levels within measured objects, such as vessels and pipe arrangements and the like of various materials and shapes at petroleum refineries petrochemical plants and the like without inserting any measuring sensors into measured objects.
Using the liquid level meter 20, prepared close to a neutron source 24, which is equipped with a neutron source 24 discharging fast neutron and a measuring section 22 including a thermal neutron detector 26 detecting to count thermal neutron, the height 12a of liquid level 12 within of measured object 10, such as vessels and pipe arrangements. After letting the measuring section 22 to approach to the outer wall of the measured object 10 to inject fast neutron from measured object 10 externally by the neutron source 24, the thermal neutron discharged from the measured object 10 externally is counted by the thermal neutron detector 26 to measure thermal neutron discrete value is measured and, based on thermal neutron discrete value at proximate position to the measuring section 22, the height 12a of liquid level 12 interior of the measured object 10.
