Abstract:

To obtain a hard or highly tough solid cross-linked polymer which can be prepd. by rapid polymn. even at a low temp. by microwave irradiation.

This liq. reactive thermosetting compsn. comprises: A) a mixture of one or more polyepoxides with one monoepoxide, of an aliph., cycloaliph. or mixed nature; B) one di- or polycarboxylic anhydride of an aliph., cycloaliph. or mixed nature; and C) a catalyst which, upon exposure to microwave irradiation, can promote rapid polymn. of the mixture of the components A and B, the catalyst being represented by the formula (wherein r is 0 or 1; Z represents a hydrogen atom or an aliph., cycloaliph., arom, or heterocyclic org. group; R1 to R3 and Y each represent an aliph., cycloaliph., arom., or heterocyclic org. group; and X- represents a halide anion selected from chloride, bromide, and iodide ions).
