In a lithium primary battery, an electrode group is sealed in an outer package body together with an electrolyte, the electrode group being configured so that a positive electrode plate 1 and a negative electrode plate 2 using lithium metal or a lithium metal alloy as a negative electrode active material are wound via a separator 3 and the negative electrode is located at the outermost periphery. An insulator 10 that has no ion permeability is arranged between the positive electrode plate 1 and the negative electrode plate 2 facing at a wound inner side of the positive electrode plate 1 so as to cover 90% or more of a facing part.
