Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recovering lithium, selectively leaching lithium of a lithium ion battery while preventing impurities from being mixed.SOLUTION: In a method for recovering lithium, lithium is recovered from burned ash produced when a positive electrode active material of a lithium ion battery including a complex oxide comprising lithium and one or more transition metals selected from among manganese, cobalt and nickel is burned. The method for recovering lithium includes: a first step of adding an inorganic acid to a treatment liquid prepared by adding water to the burned ash to leach water-soluble lithium in the burned ash into water while adjusting a pH in a range of 3-10; a second step of performing solid-liquid separation of the treatment liquid including lithium leached in water; a third step of adding the burned ash to a liquid after leaching, the liquid being obtained by the solid-liquid separation, and repeating the first step and the second step to increase a lithium concentration; and a fourth step of adding a carbonating agent to the treatment liquid increased in lithium concentration to recover lithium as a lithium carbonate salt.
