To provide a battery that contains lithium-containing transition metal oxide as a positive electrode material and has a good charge/discharge cycle characteristic, by providing a positive electrode with a specific composition and including, as an active material, powdery lithium-containing manganese nickel compound oxide having a hexagonal system structure.
A positive electrode is represented by a composition formula LixMn1-yNiyO2 (0.1≤x≤1.2, 0.20≤y≤0.39). Preferably, lithium-containing manganese nickel compound oxide is represented by especially a composition formula LixMn1-yNiyO2 (0.1≤x≤1.2, 0.25≤y≤0.35). Half band width of an X-ray diffraction peak of a lattice surface (104) derived using a CuK α-ray as a radiation source in a composition of x=1 of the lithium-containing manganese nickel composite oxide is 0.16-0.40°. The positive electrode 1 and a negative electrode 2 face to each other through a separator 3 impregnating nonaqueous electrolyte, are stored in battery cans, namely a positive electrode can 4 and a negative electrode can 5. The positive electrode 1 is connected to the positive electrode can 4 through a positive electrode collector 6, and the negative electrode 2 is connected to the negative electrode can 5 through a negative electrode collector 7.
