Title:
LITHIUM SECONDARY BATTERY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3185113
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a lithium secondary battery having an excellent charge/ discharge cycle characteristic and over discharge characteristic by using a lithium-including oxide for a positive electrode and a niobium pentoxide for a negative electrode.
CONSTITUTION: In a niobium pentoxide, because of entrance and exit of lithium to/from a crystal lattice thereof, physical expansion and contraction are hardly caused and therefore breakage of a negative electrode 3 due to a battery cycle is not generated, thus an excellent cycle characteristic is exhibited. Since a diffusion speed of lithium into a niobium pentoxide is large, rapid charging is possible. Since the niobium pentoxide is electrochemically stable even at a high potential as high as 4 volts, it can retain stability at an over discharge state and therefore exhibit an excellent battery characteristic even after over discharge.
