To provide a lithium secondary battery having sufficiently satisfactory high thermal runaway suppressing effect (consequently excellent safety), specifically, a lithium secondary battery capable of avoiding ignition or blowout of a battery due to thermal runaway even if the temperature in the battery increases to 300 °C or higher due to overcharge etc.
This lithium secondary battery comprises a positive electrode material containing a lithium transitional metal complex oxide as a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode material containing a lithium insertion material as a negative electrode active material and a non-aqueous electrolytic solution in which a lithium compound electrolyte is dissolved in an organic solvent as constituent elements. As the nonaqueous electrolyte, one containing a halogen-substituted organic compound and a polymerizable monomer is used.
