To provide a secondary battery with high energy density, satisfactory temperature characteristic and long charge and discharge life by using a specified amorphous lithium-contained transition metal nitride as a negative electrode active material, and using a specified electrolyte.
In an electrolytic solution 3 which a nonaqueous solvent, for example, a lithium salt such as LiPF6, LiClO4, LiBF4, LiAsF6 and the like is used as electrolyte, and propylene carbonate is preferably contained as the nonaqueous solvent. As a negative electrode active electrode 6, a one capable of charging and discharging lithium ion, particularly, an amorphous lithium- contained transition metal nitride having a composition formula Li1+xMyN (M represents an element belonging to transition metal, x is within the range of -0.2-2.0, and y is within the range of 0.1-0.5) is used. Such electrode and negative electrode active material are used, whereby a lithium secondary battery with high energy density, satisfactory temperature characteristic and long charge and discharge life can be provided.
