To provide a liver-protecting agent which can quickly detoxify and metabolize active oxygen species to prevent their production and accumulation to protect the liver, and has an anti-oxidation activity, especially to provide a liver-protecting agent whose side effects are less than those of conventional agents, and which contains a naturally originated substance, and can especially orally be administered.
The liver-protecting agent of the present invention is characterized by containing the endocarp-containing kernel of walnut or an extract thereof. The other liver-protecting agent of the present invention is characterized by containing the endocarp of walnut kernel or an extract thereof. The further other liver-protecting agent of the present invention is characterized by containing a polyphenol contained in the endocarp of walnut kernel. The liver-protecting agent of the present invention may be contained in foods, quasi-drugs, medicines, or external preparations for skins.
