PURPOSE: To ensure the operation of a load adjusting device for an internal combustion engine by forcing a transmission member in a full-load direction with a coupling spring coupled to a freely movable element and forcing the transmission member and a control element in an idle direction with a return spring.
CONSTITUTION: A transmission member 4 connected to an accelerator pedal 1 via a lever 2 and a cable 3 is energized in an idle direction by a return spring 6 into connection with a set-point value detection element 7 in a potentiometer 8 so as to operate a servomotor 9 via a clutch 10 and a control element 11, which adjusts a throttle valve 16 or a fuel injector. The transmission member 4 supports on its arm 4a a freely movable hook 13 for movement, which has two legs 13a and 13b that loosely receive a free end 11a of the control element 11 therebetween. The hook 13 is energized in a full-load direction by a coupling spring 24 into contact with the transmission member 4 at a point 25. When an interval monitor means 15 detects any abnormality, the clutch 10 is disengaged, and the transmission member 4 and the control element 11 are coupled mechanically via the springs 6, 24 and 26.
