To properly control the slip amount of a lock-up clutch in transition from lock-up OFF to lock-up ON when lock-up control is started.
When a lock-up clutch command hydraulic pressure in transition from lock-up OFF to lock-up ON is learned, arrival time from a time point when engagement pressure fixing control ends till an actual slip ratio reaches a predetermined target value or a predetermined value around the value is measured, and a learned value of the command hydraulic pressure is updated based on the length of the arrival time. An original initial control command pressure is corrected based on the learned value, and engaging control of a lock-up clutch in an OFF state is started according to the corrected initial control command pressure. Thus, the slippage of the lock-up clutch in transition from lock-up OFF to lock-up ON when lock-up clutch control is started can be properly controlled, and thereby heating, lowering of fuel economy or occurrence of engagement shock resulting from unnecessary occurrence of clutch slippage can be prevented.
