Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent an engine stall, by detecting the surface condition of a road so that the lock-up operation of an automatic speed reduction gear is inhibited when the frictional coefficient of the road surface is low. CONSTITUTION:A road surface frictional coefficient discriminating means 104 discriminates the frictional coefficient of a road surface in accordance with the result of detection by a road surface condition detecting means 103 for directly or indirectly detecting the surface condition of a road. A lock-up operation inhibiting means 105 inhibits the lock-up operation of a lock-up type torque converter 101 when the road surface frictional coefficient discriminating means 104 determines that the frictional coefficient of the road surface is less than a predetermined value. Therefore, even if any wheel-lock occures when a rapid brake operation is exerted in a low road surface frictional coefficient condition, it is possible to prevent the braking force of an engine from being effected, thereby it is possible to prevent an engine stall.
