Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lock up device capable of rapidly absorbing and attenuating torque fluctuation regardless of the magnitude of the torque fluctuation.SOLUTION: A lock up device 6 is used to transmit torque and to absorb and attenuate torque fluctuation. The lock up device 6 of a torque converter 1 according to this invention includes a piston 8, a damper mechanism 13, and a resistance variable mechanism 50. The resistance variable mechanism 50 has a second driven plate 51 arranged to be rotatable with respect to the piston 8. The resistance variable mechanism 50 generates second slide resistance between the piston 8 and the second driven plate 51 by relative rotation of the piston 8 and the second driven plate 51, and can vary the second slide resistance in accordance with a relative rotation amount of the piston 8 and the second driven plate 51. The torque fluctuation is absorbed and attenuated by the second slide resistance.
