To provide a locking device for a cabinet or the like which cannot be opened by a child without reducing its operational performance at the ordinary use.

The locking device 6 for the cabinet or the like provided between an opening part of an article storing body 3 and a lid body 4 for closing the opening part comprises a switchboard 11 disposed on either side of the opening part or the lid body in a displaceable manner, a striker 7 integrated with the switchboard 11, a hook 8 fixed to the other side to be engageable with the striker moving along the displacement of the switchboard, a click means 13 for giving a touch of click at least at two positions of the displacement of the switchboard. Only by rotating or sliding the switchboard, the striker integrated with the switchboard moves between a locking position where it is engaged with the hook and a free position where its engagement is released. A moderation feeling is imparted at the two of the locking position and the free position by the click means.
