Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long-glass-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin molding material which is freed from the problems in a conventional technique, does not suffer the troubles due to the fluff formed during the production, pneumatic conveying, and molding, and can give a molding freed from appearance defects because the glass filaments can be sufficiently dispersed when molded and to provide a method for producing the same.
SOLUTION: The resin molding material is a palletized or suitably shaped one composed of a matrix and a plurality of glass filaments having substantially the same lengths and a unidirectionally arranged therein in parallel, wherein the coefficient of variation of the diameters of the glass filaments is at most 13%. The method is one comprising coating or impregnating a glass fiber prepared by binding a plurality of continuous glass filaments with a molten thermoplastic resin and, after cooling, cutting the glass fiber to a specified length to form a palletized or suitably shaped material, wherein the glass fiber used is one in which the coefficient of variation of the diameters of the constituent glass filaments is at most 13%.
