To provide a method for manufacturing a long rail improving the fatigue strength of a welded part in comparison with the conventional rail.
In the method for manufacturing the long rail, at least two pieces of rails are enclosed-arc-welded, and an ultrasonic peening treatment is performed to the end-edge part of a bead formed in the welded part and to discontinued portion of the bead. After performing the ultrasonic peening treatment, the bead positioned at the rail head part is removed, and the beads positioned at the column part and the leg part of the rail may not be removed. In this way, as the fatigue limit, in 2 million times of repeating loads, becomes higher by more than 30 MPa in comparison with non-treating material, in which the ultrasonic peening treatment is not applied.
