To provide a method of manufacturing a long welded rail which is improved in fatigue strength at a weld zone compared with a conventional long welded rail.
According to the method of manufacturing the long welded rail, at least two rails are flush-butt-welded or gas-pressure-welded together, and the most portion of a bead formed at the weld zone is punched by a cutting tool having a shape following an external periphery of the rail, followed by carrying out ultrasonic peening on a toe of weld of the bead, located at least on a downstream side in a punching direction. Thus a fatigue limit that is obtained after repeated loading of two million times, is improved by 30 MPa compared with a product on which the ultrasonic peening is not carried out.
