Title:
LOW-CARBON LOW-SULFUR FREE CUTTING STEEL AND PRODUCTION THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS56105460
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce the low-carbon low-sulfur free cutting steel excellent in machinability and cold-workability by a method wherein molten steel of specified composition is deoxidized in a converter by adding Mn and Al, and then the molten steel is auxiliarily deoxidized in a ladle so as to control the oxygen content to a narrow range.

CONSTITUTION: When producing the steel which contains up to 0.15% of C, up to 0.15% of Si, 0.60W1.50% of Mn, 0.04W0.15% of P, 0.24W0.35% of S and up to 0.005% of Al, the molten steel in the converter is deoxidized by adding Mn and Al so as to control the amount of oxygen dissolved in the molten steel before discharging from the converter to the range between 100W500ppm. Then, the molten steel is auxiliarily deoxidized in the ladle by adding Al thereto, whereby the amount of the dissolved oxygen is controlled to the range between 100W200ppm. Accordingly, by controlling the oxygen content within the narrow range, the low- carbon low-sulfur free cutting steel excellent in workability can be obtained without impairing the machinability.
