Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface tension reducing agent for reducing the surface tension of a water-based composition; and a composition containing the same.
SOLUTION: A water-based composition, especially a coating, an ink, a fountain solution, an adhesive, a composition for agriculture, or a cleaning composition for electronic industries, is obtained by incorporating, into the composition, an N,N'-dialkylamide of malic acid having a structure represented by formula (1) (wherein R1 and R2 are each a 4-10C alkyl, preferably, at least either R1 or R2 is a branched 4-10C alkyl) in an amount enough to reduce the surface tension of the composition.
