Title:
LOW OXYGEN METAL VANADIUM POWDER AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3879256
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain low oxygen metal vanadium powder having a specified particle size or less and a specified oxygen content or less by washing the surface of metal vanadium powder having a high oxygen content obtd. by comminuting metal vanadium with an inorg. acid.
SOLUTION: Metal vanadium obtd. e.g. by molten salt electrolysis of an aluminum-vanadium alloy is comminuted with a ball mill or the like and classified to obtain the metal vanadium having about 60-325 mesh particle size. This raw metal vanadium powder is agitated and washed by using hydrofluoride, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid or a liq. mixture of two kinds of them to dissolve and remove an oxidized coating film on the surface of the raw powder and the powder is filtered, washed with water and dried. The concn. of the acid to be used at this time is about ≥1 wt.%, preferably about 5-20 wt.%, an acid washing temp. is about 10-95°C and an acid washing time is about ≥1 min, preferably about 2-60 min. The objective low oxygen metal vanadium powder having ≤60 mesh particle size and ≤0.19 wt.% oxygen content is obtd.
