Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:2-(Cyanophenyl)-2-methyl-4-methylene-1,3-dioxolane expressed by formula I.

EXAMPLE: 2-(4'-Cyanophenyl)-2-methyl-4-methylene-1,3-dioxolane.

USE: A low shrinkable polymerizable monomer, which is a radically polymerizable compound having a small shrinkage in polymerization. The polymer, expressed by formula III, and obtained by radical polymerization with heat or radiation has improved adhesion to various metals, glass, etc., and useful as adhesives, composite materials, casting materials, molding materials, etc.

PREPARATION: A compound expressed by formula II (X is halogen, e.g. Cl or Br) is dehydrohalogenated in dimethylformamide and an alkali, e.g. CH3ONa, and the resultant product is extracted with ether, etc., and distilled under reduced pressure to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
