PURPOSE: To lower the melt viscosity of a liquid crystal polymer to such an extent that it can be easily molded, by heat-treating the liquid crystal polymer to a temperature between its melting point and its decomposition point and cooling it to a temperature between its melting-initiation point and its melting point.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal polymer is heat-treated at a temperature between its melting point and its decomposition point and then cooled to a temperature between its melting-initiation point and its melting point. The polymer and is a thermoplastic polymer having a property as a liquid crystal in a molten state and may be a polymer of any liquid crystal structure such as a nematic, smectic or cholesteric structure. Among these polymers, a copolyester is desirable as the liquid crystal polymer and particularly, a copolyester having oxybenzoyl monomer units is desirable.
