Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a novel compsn. which contains a basic-nitrogen-contg. oil-soluble ashless dispersant, an alkoxylated alcohol, and a borating agent in a specified ratio, is useful as a multifunctional additive for an oil exhibiting lubricating viscosity, and does not contain a metal.
CONSTITUTION: This compsn. is prepd. by compounding (A) 1 pt.wt. basic- nitrogen-contg. oil-soluble ashless dispersant with (B) about 0.03-0.35 pt.wt. alkoxylated alcohol and (C) a borating agent in an amt. of about 0.005-0.06 pt.wt. in terms of boron, heating the resultant mixture to about 50-150°C, and, when the mixture contains water and/or a solid, removing at least either the water or the solid. If necessary, about 0.0005-0.03 pt.wt. inorg. oxy-acid (anhydride) of phosphorus (D) is incorporated into the compsn.
