To obtain an additive and a compsn. both useful as a lubricant and a functional fluid and both having good extreme-pressure characteristics and abrasion resistance.
The compsn. contains the following: an oil having a lubricating viscosity; a compd. represented by the formula [wherein R1 and R2 are each independently H or hydrocarbyl; X' is O or S; and Q is an alkyl group optionally having at least one group selected from among an active group, a hydrocarbyl group, a hetero group, and -SC(X')-NR1R2 provided the sum of carbon atoms of R1, R2, and Q is at least 4]; a phosphorus-contg. acid or ester represented by the formula: (R6X)(R7X)P(X)nXmR8 (wherein each X is independently O or S; n is 0 or 1; m is 0 or 1 provided n+m is 1 or 2; and R6, R7, and R8 are each H or hydrocarbyl); and a surfactant.
