PURPOSE: To obtain the title lubricant which can make a mixing operation simple and safe, facilitate sticking at ordinary temperature, shorten the drying time, and improve both the adhesiveness at ordinary temperature and the stability when heated, by mixing chromium oxide and SiO2.

CONSTITUTION: 100 pts.wt. chromium oxide is mixed with 2-10 pts.wt. SiO2 to give the title lubricant. This lubricant is mixed with a binder preferably comprising a water glass in an amount of 20-130wt.% based on the lubricant so as to provide a viscosity of 80,000cP or lower, and the mixture is applied to the surface of a pipe to be rolled before heating prior to rolling.
