To provide a lubricant which is used for magnetic recording media, has a good spin off characteristic and a good floating characteristic, little stains magnetic heads and hardly rusts magnetic layers, to provide a method for producing the same, and to provide a magnetic recording device using the lubricant and suitable for high density recording.
This lubricant for magnetic recording media comprises a linear polymer containing at least either of a perfluoroalkane bond and a perfluoropolyether bond in the main chain and having a number-average mol. wt., a (weight-average mol. wt.)/(number-average mol. wt.) value, and a total anion amount within prescribed value ranges, respectively. It is preferable that ≥90% of the total terminal group amount of the polymer is at least one terminal group selected from the group consisting of OH group, amino group, piperonyl group and -CH(OH)CH2OH.
