PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent intermission of contact supply of a solid lubricant and oversupply caused by melting-down of the lubricant by supplying the solid lubricant to a work roll in at least one position between an upper position higher than the axial center of an upper work roll and a lower position lower than the axial center of a lower work roll and shielding radient heat from a material to be rolled to the solid lubricant.
SOLUTION: Solid lubricant pushing-in devices 1 on which the solid lubricant 2 are mounted are provided in a solid lubricant supplying regions X where are apart from the positions of the axial centers 4, 4 of the upper and lower work rolls 3, 3 and in opposite positions of the material 5 to be rolled. It is preferable to provide the piping of cooling water and cooling water nozzles of a cooling system on the solid lubricant pushing-in device 1. In this way, the temperature rising of the solid lubricant 2 is prevented and the melting-down is evaded. By providing a heat shielding plate between the solid lubricant pushing-in device 1 and the material 5 to be rolled, the heat radiation from the material 5 to be rolled is prevented and the temperature rising of the solid lubricant 2 is prevented. By these measures, an extent of consumption of the solid lubricant 2 of ≥50% is reduced.
