Abstract:

To provide a low-viscosity lubricating base oil suitable as a lubricating base oil component for automatic transmission fluid (ATFs) having excellent low-temperature characteristics and being produceable at low cost, and a high-performance automatic transmission fluid using the lubricating base oil.

The low-viscosity lubricating base oil for producing the automatic transmission fluid is produced by a treating process containing catalytic de-waxing and hydrogenation and finishing steps from a feedstock containing an unconverted oil and has approximately 2.0-2.5 cSt (at 100°C) viscosity, approximately ≤-42°C pour point, ≥90 viscosity index and ≥156°C flash point.
