To combine a decrease in agitation resistance of lubricating oil and guarantee of lubricating performance in a lubricating device in a hydraulic pump or a hydraulic motor.
An axial piston pump P is provided with a cylinder block 10 connected to an engine E and rotated inside a casing l, and lubricating oil from a lubricating oil pump OP is fed into the casing l from a lubricating oil feed port 21 and returned to a tank T from a lubricaitng oil discharge port 22. In order to reduce agitation resistance of lubricating oil due to the cylinder block 10 during idling operation of the engine E, the passage sectional area A of the lubricating oil discharge port 22 is so set that the oil level height of lubricating oil is Ho. When engine speed is increased from idling speed, the delivery of the lubricating oil pump OP is increased, and the oil level height of lubricating oil rapidly rises so as to ensure lubricating performance during high speed operation.
