Abstract:
A lubricating oil composition providing improved inhibition of sludge and varnish formation in use and comprising a major amount by weight of oil of lubricating viscosity, a minor amount by weight of solid particles effective to improve the lubricating properties of the composition and a minor amount of a nitrogen-containing polymeric dispersant- VI improver material selected from (a) the reaction product of an amorphous oxidised ethylene/ propylene copolymer with an aliphatic amine, (b) a graft polymer of a dialkylaminoalkyl methacrylate on to an olefin polymer backbone, (c) an n-alkyl methacrylate dialkylaminoalkyl methacrylate or N-alkanone acrylamide copolymer and (d) a nitrogen- containing ester of an interpolymer of an olefin and an alpha beta - unsaturated acid or anhydride.
