To provide a luminaire and a liquid-crystal display device using it at a low cost where the reflection efficiency of the light of a light source reflected in one end part direction of a light guide plate is improved.

The luminaire comprises a holder member 11 in which, being long sideways, an internal wall 11a is formed into U-shape, and a pair of light sources 10 provided at both ends, in the longitudinal direction, of the holder member 11. The holder member 11 is formed by molding with a resin material comprising a white polycarbonate, and at the molding, the internal wall 11a is made to be specular, resulting in the improved reflectivity of the light of light source 10 reflected on the internal wall 11a toward a one end part 8a of a light guide plate 8. Thus, the image such as a character of a liquid-crystal cell 1 is clearly displayed.
