Abstract:

To enhance the washing effect with water to a great extent by specifying the thickness of a light emitting tube or cover or the like to enclose the tube, forming on the external surface a facial layer containing photo- semiconductor particles, and thereby giving hydrophilic property to the facial layer.

Anatase type titanium sol of ammonia peptizing type and colloidal silica sol are mixed together in a solid-converted mol proportion of 88:12. and the obtained mixture is applied to the surface of a fluorescent lamp 1 and subjected to a baking process at 450°C for 30min so that a facial layer 2 consisting of TiO2 and SiO2 is 3μm thick. The thickness of the tubing of this fluorescent lamp 1 should be, for example 2mm, which does not constitute hindrance to ultraviolet rays emitted from the lamp to reach the facial layer 2. The contact angle of the layer immediately after baking to the water is 15deg., but once the lighting is started, it becomes zero deg. after approx. one hr, and remains under five deg. within one week approximately after stopping of the lighting. When the invention is applied to a street lighting, it is self- cleaned with rain precipitation, and the illuminance will not drop for one month or more.
