To improve the luminous intensity, luminous efficiency, and stability in repeated use by reacting a dihalide of a specified divalent residue, a secondary amine derivative, potassium carbonate and a catalyst in a solvent.
A dihalide of a divalent residue represented by A in formula I is reacted with a secondary amine derivative having a structure wherein the N-A bond of formula I is substituted by H, potassium carbonate and a catalyst in a solvent to give a luminescent material for an organic electroluminescent element, represented by formula I [wherein A is, e.g. an (un)substituted aromatic group, an (un)substituted condensed aromatic group [except for groups of formula II (wherein E is H, or adjacent E's may be combined to form a new six-membered aromatic ring)], or a divalent group linked through at least one nonaromatic structural unit (except for the case of formula III); Ar1 to Ar4 are each an (un)substituted aromatic group, or an (un)substituted condensed aromatic group; x1 to x4 are each -O-, -S-, >C=O, etc.; and R1 to R20 are each H, halogeno, an (un)substituted alkyl, an (un)substituted alkoxy, etc.].
