To obtain a coating compsn. which provides a coating film which facilitates night-time visual recognition of a coated article by incorporating a luminous agent mainly comprising a compd. represented by a specific formula into the compsn. and by specifying the brightness of the coating film.
This compsn. contains a luminous agent mainly comprising a compd. represented by the formula: MAl2O4 (wherein M is Ca, Sr, or Ba) and a reflective agent, and hence the afterglow luminance is enhanced and a luminous coating film with a long afterglow time is formed. The brightness of the coating film is 4 or higher. Both the agents are used each in an amt. of 2-80 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. solid content of the compsn, and the wt. ratio (solid basis) of the luminous agent to the reflective agent is (9/1)-(6/4). The luminous agent. e.g. CaAl2O4, contains 0.5 mol of Eu as the activator and has an average particle size of 5-25 μm. Pref., the reflective agent, e.g. glass beads, is pearly and has an average particle size of 5-100 μm. A vehicle comprising a thermosetting resin (e.g. an acrylic resin) and a curing agent is used as a compsn. into which the luminous agent is incorporated.
