Title:
LYTIC PROTEIN DERIVED FROM BACTERIOPHAGE PARASITIC TO PALSTONIA SOLANACEARUM, DNA CODING FOR THE PROTEIN, AND TRANSFORMANT HAVING THE DNA
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3935279
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new lytic protein which is produced by a bacteriophage parasitic to Ralstonia solanacearum, which has a specific molecular weight and an N-terminal amino acid sequence, and can be used for preparing a transformed plant useful in agriculture and so on.
SOLUTION: A new lytic protein is provided which is produced by a bacteriophage parasitic to Ralstonia solanacearum, has a molecular weight of about 71 kDa as determined by SDS-PAGE and an N-terminal amino acid sequence shown in the formula, and can give resistance against the bacterial wilt of eggplants and to bacco plants. A gene coding for the protein is useful for preparing a transformed plant useful in agriculture and so on. This lytic protein is obtained by applying the ammonium sulfate precipitation to a suspension of Ralstonia solanacearum having bacteriophage to recover a 0-40% saturated ammonium sulfate fraction, followed by applying the obtained fraction to the gel filtration high-performance liquid chromatography.
