To provide a Ti-based wire rod for forming molten metal in which the total content of oxygen can be sufficiently reduced though being provided with a Ti-based oxide film thicker than a naturally oxidizable film, and in its turn, the total oxygen content can easily be controlled within a standard range.
In the Ti-based wire rod for forming molten metal from which molten metal composed of Ti-based metal is formed by being successively heated and melted from the tip side, the wire rod body 3 is composed of Ti-based metal, and a Ti-based oxide film 2 thicker than a naturally oxidizable film is formed on the surface of the wire rod body. Regarding the total oxygen content WOTin the whole of the wire rod 3, standard upper limit value WOmax is decided. Further, in the total oxygen content WOT, the contribution to the oxygen content by the Ti-based oxide film 2 is defined as WOF, then, an upper limit regulation margin ΔWO of oxygen in the body higher than the WOF is set, and the oxygen content WOM in the wire rod body 3 is regulated to WOmax-ΔWO or lower.
