To provide an RNA interference method for controlling pest infestation using a double stranded RNA molecule that represses, delays or reduces the gene expression within a particular pest.
The double stranded ribonucleotide sequence produced from the expression of a polynucleotide sequence can inhibit the growth of a pest when in contact with the pest. Thus there are provided the double stranded ribonucleotide sequence, a composition including the polynucleotide, and cells transformed by the polynucleotide. Provided is a method for controlling the infestation of pest wherein the composition and the cells are selected from the group consisting of a spray, powder, pellet, gel, capsule, food product, garment bag, and book, and the food is selected from the group consisting of stored grains, pet food and powdered chocolate. Also provided is a method for preventing or treating the infestation of pest such as nematode and true fungi by treating the surface of an object such as wood, tree, book binding, cloth, food product and storage container with the composition.
