To provide a machine tool capable of restraining deformation and a postural change of a cross rail in slim constitution and restraining lowering of working precision of a work caused by the deformation and the postural change.
This machine tool is furnished with a plurality of columns erected at positions facing to each other with a table 4 between them in the moving direction (Y axis direction) of a main spindle device 8, arranged fore and aft against a center of gravity of the main spindle device in the moving direction (X axis direction) of the table 4 and to guide the cross rail 6 in the vertical direction (W axis direction) and a supporting driving mechanism 14 to drive the cross rail 6 in the vertical direction (W axis direction) while supporting it. Additionally, the cross rail 6 includes a pair of supporting parts 6a, 6b to respectively support a part of the back and forth side against the center of gravity of the main spindle device 8 in the X axis direction and a through hole 6c through which each of the columns 10b is inserted in the vertical direction (W axis direction).
