PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool capable of efficiently forming slits opened on both sides of an axis line, for instance, in a workpiece supported on the axis line.SOLUTION: A machine tool 1 includes: a first workpiece support section 3 for supporting a workpiece W; a first tool support section 5 movable in a Z-axis direction and an X-axis direction; a second tool support section 6 movable in the Z-axis direction independently of the first tool support section 5; an end mill 8 in which a cutting blade is formed in a shaft section except a tip; a support tool 9 for supporting the tip of the end mill 8; and a control section 10. The control section 10 controls operations of the first tool support section 5 and the second tool support section 6 so that the support tool 9 supports the tip of the end mill 8 and the end mill 8 and the support tool 9 move in the Z-axis direction while the end mill 8 rotates in a state in which the end mill 8 enters a through hole formed in the workpiece W from one side, the tip of the end mill 8 projects to the other side, and the shaft section of the end mill 8 overlaps the through hole.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
