To precisely machine the outside diameter of a cutting edge to a prescribed outside diameter by correcting an error due to thermal deformation of a machine tool when polishing the outside diameter in the outer circumference of an end mill.
This machining method of the end mill polishes the outside diameter in the end mill E, which has an approximately columnar shape and is formed with the cutting edge in its outer circumference, and machines the cutting edge to a prescribed outside diameter, while measuring the outside diameter D of the end mill E. A column 1 of a machine tool for polishing the outside diameter in the end mill E is attached with a touch probe 3, the column 1 and the end mill E are relatively moved, and the touch probe 3 is brought into contact with the outer circumference of the end mill E from one side of the central axis O of the end mill E and from the other side of the central axis O in opposite to one side respectively so as to measure the dimension of the outside diameter D of the end mill. The outside diameter is polished based on the measuring result.
