To provide a machining method making it possible to shave a gear using a machining center, and a shaving tool for use in the method.
The shaving tool is mounted to the main spindle 2 of the machining center and the gear W to be shaven is mounted on an X-table 33. The main spindle 2 is rotatable and movable in the direction of its axis (direction of Z-axis). The X-table 33 is movable in the directions of X- and Y-axes perpendicular to the Z-axis. The shaving tool includes a tool shaft to which a shaving cutter is mounted, with the tool shaft having a crossing angle with the main spindle 2 and the shaving cutter rotatably mounted to the main spindle 2. The shaving cutter is brought into engagement with the gear W and is pivoted by the rotation of the main spindle 2 and, as the gear W is brought into circular interpolation movement on the X-Y plane and moved following the pivoting of the shaving cutter, the main spindle 2 is moved in the direction of the Z-axis.
